A Time for Everything
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
-Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Everything that God has created has a purpose; a definitive purpose. Everything He’s created has a beginning, an end and a plan for the in between. We aren’t told the plan, but we are just made known the purpose. Our Father is a God of perfection. He doesn’t make mistakes. He knows exactly what is to happen and when.
Focus on the purpose, not the plan.
If you’ve ever camped outside in the woods, you would know how important it is to carry a compass with you. When you look around you will find no definite path to take you to your destination, yet you know that the journey is worth all the trouble even if it means getting lost. This is when a compass comes handy. Using a compass might not show you what road to take, but it will definitely show you the direction you should go.
Direction, not the road. Purpose, not the plan.
“Oh my promotion is stuck!” “My grades aren’t improving.” “My health is deteriorating!” We were not called to focus on the present. It will pass and it will pass away fast. We are called to focus on our purpose and let God handle the plan. “But what if I don’t know the direction?” Use your spiritual compass (it says ‘Ask and you shall receive’), it will show you the way to go.
Don’t worry if there has been no action or improvement in your situation. It only means that the time for change has not arrived. So if you find yourself focusing on the unnecessary, just remember this.
Even the waves know when to form and when to crash. When they don’t, they just wait. Because there is peace even in the waiting. So take heart and rejoice!
